Just a little something so you folks can decide if you want to check my story out...
Vampires - drinkers of blood forced to hide from the sun - and Ailurans - feral shapeshifters capable of assuming feline forms and deathly allergic to silver - have been at war for the last 1,000 years. No one knows why, exactly, save that the two species have never coexisted comfortably.
Each species tries to deny their common roots, but an identical plague suffered every 100 years by the foremost house of both species lends a frightening credence to the claims of common ancestry, and a common curse...
600 years ago, the Vampires dealt the Ailurans a crippling blow, taking advantage of the chaos of a Plague Year to make a decisive strike against the Ailuran leadership. Left decimated, the Ailurans retreated underground, never regaining their former strength, yet never completely fading away either.
If anything, the war has grown more desperate, the Ailurans making up for inferior numbers with skill and sheer tenacity. Now, Vampires and Ailurans haunt the streets of modern cities, armed with all the weapons the Twenty First Century can provide them, and prepared to accept nothing less than wholesale slaughter of the opposing side.
Into this chaotic fray - amidst the desperation of one of the worst Plague Years ever recorded - walk a Vampire and a Ailuran destined to change the course of the war, and the fate of both species.
Emma DeLauro is a Death Dealer, a Vampire commando sworn to hunt down every last Ailuran she can - an oath of vengeance for the family lost to Ailuran savagery.
Shalimar Fox is a Ailuran warrior, fighting for her people's survival in a war she doesn't quite understand. She, too, has known loss and grief, and sworn her own oath of revenge.
Their first meeting on the field of battle leads to mutual respect. The electric (and completely unexpected) attraction that develops as the chaotic and mysterious politics of a Plague Year throw them together will shake the foundations of both their worlds, and resonate all the way back to the very heart of the war that has claimed them both...
Eee! T minus 2 hours and counting until the unofficial beginning of the WriMo we're doing. WHAT have I gotten myself into? I'm scared. And freaking out. And I have icons. It's all very exciting. So I know the general plotline of the fic I'm gonna be doing, La Bella y La Bestia--but pretty much otherwise I'm flying by the seat of my pants here. *sigh* So I'm doing one M-X one and then I'll (hopefully) be doing a BoP version as well. Yes, I'm insane. Yes, I like it that way. *grin* Deal.
Okay. *sigh* Wish me luck. All fic posts will be written and posted as I get them up--and all posts by me as the author will be noted in the subject line.
